BERLIN (AFP)– Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller is an injury doubt for Saturday nights's key Bundesliga clash at defending champion Bayern Munich with a knee injury.
The possible loss of Weidenfeller could open the way for Dortmund's reserve, ex-Melbourne Victory shot-stopper Mitchell Langerak, 22, to make his first league apperance of the season at the sold-out Allianz Arena in Munich.
The 30-year-old Weidenfeller was injured in a training clash with Germany defender Mat Hummels on Tuesday and Wiedenfeller has been sent for a scan on Wednesday to discover the extent of the injury.
If the scan confirms it is a medial ligament injury, Weidenfeller could be out for up to six weeks with the season set to end on May 14 and currently 10 points clear at the top of the table.
"I hope that it is only stretched, but it was a hard knock and the knee got very swollen in the evening," Weidenfeller told German daily newspaper Bild.
"I have some pain with it."
Bayern are third in the table and 13 points behind the leaders who are on course for their first league title since 2002.
